Session title

Metacogntive Strategies to Improve Mathematical Problem Solving

2.45 - 3.45pm

Workshop Overview

In this workshop we will:

  • Discuss the difficulty that learners have with worded maths problems.

  • Look at what the research has to say about this

  • The response provided in a small scale research pilot in local schools

  • Share what we found and how this strategy might be used in the classroom

  • Discuss strategies for implementation should you wish to use it in your own classroom

Over a thirty year career Alastair has had a variety of positions, including senior leadership roles, within secondary schools and is currently a strategic lead for Sheffield SCITT, while still being found in the classroom.  Research informed practice has been the bed rock of his practice and in recent years he has led many training sessions within the Research School Network, sharing this experience with teachers across all phases.
