Metacognitive Tools to Develop Memory and Knowledge Recall

Workshop Overview: 

This workshop will look at a variety of metacognitive tools: Thinking Frames, Thinking Hats and Thinkers Keys and how Maidstone Grammar School for Girls use them to imprint information and to improve pupil's knowledge recall. Takeaways will be ways for practitioners to use the tools, whichever subject they teach and how the tools can be used to reduce workload and improve outcomes.

Benjamin White is an Assistant Head at Maidstone Girls’ Grammar School in Kent. He co-authored ‘The Next Big Thing in Education’ with Professor Becky Allen and Matthew Evans. Ben has a particular interest in teaching practice and its relationship with shifting policies, fads and educational research. He has written research guides for Ambition Institute and led research projects for the Education Endowment Foundation, Ashford Teaching Alliance and the Department for Education. He also developed Compare and Learn (a comparative learning web-app). He holds a Masters in Education and professional studies and currently facilitates the National Professional Qualification in Leading Teacher Development.  He is also a keen blogger and experienced public speaker.
